THE DOG BLOG - Watson's Wisdom

Dateline: Southwest Harbor

We moved 3 miles today. Say what! I just don't get it. At least this marina is next to a fish dock. You could have knocked me over: Eau de fish guts!! My favorite!! This is turning out to be just a great day! This am I had a slider off the kiddie menu from dinner last night. The Personal Care Assistants had them hold the buns and the French fries at the Colonel last night and brought me the rest. Great way to start a day! Let the rest of them head back to The Colonel for breakfast so Joel could have blueberry pancakes: I got a burger!!

Yesterday afternoon the fog went up and then came down with a thud - which is what the fireworks sounded like in the distance last night. While the local youngsters did send off a bunch of fireworks last night out in the harbor, there was just a misty blast of light and a few pops to indicate our celebration in Northeast Harbor. The Humans played that hateful game Rummi Kube while I read the backs of my eyelids before dinner - and then it was lights out!!

I got everyone up this am at the crack of fog - which lifted pretty fast and we headed out of Northeast Harbor and shot directly into Southwest Harbor, right into Dysarts Boatyard, home to a bunch of pretty fancy yachts - too nice for boats. There we dropped off Taking Stock after I left a few marks and deposits ashore and all headed out on After You up Somes Sound. Somes Sound is supposed to be the only fjord on the east coast of North America - but hey, what do I know! It sure was pretty.

The bus driver of the Oli Trolley told us all the rich people left Mount Desert Island after the advent of the "horseless carriage" which ruined the area. I have news: they are back and they all have gigantic houses along Somes Sound. Their docks are longer than 3 city blocks because of the dramatic tides here. I would need a rest stop about 1/2 way out to the boat!

We tooled up the Sound and dodged the lobstermen and their pots as well as kayakers and a seal that actually let us take his photo! He must not have gotten the memo that requires all wildlife to AVOID having their picture taken at all cost. He must know the Puffins!

Back at Dysarts, we sucked down a little lunch, such as it was, and headed out on another forced march to Clarks Point and downtown Southwest Harbor. We trucked on around the bay and made it to the Coast Guard Station - so that we could turn around and come back. I was whipped! So now - they are all playing the Hateful Game out on the cockpit of After You - and I am helping - but mostly just on the lookout for cute dockgirls. Haven't found many so far this trip! Expecting another quiet night - and then off to Belfast tomorrow.

Keep that tail wagging!
W.
